The town of Aynderil

Dessa goes over to the sink when done eating, and begins to wash the dirty dishes. "When we are done here we can go to the back of the cottage. There is a small empty field there, perfect for doing spells. I have it warded to keep rogue spells from hitting the cottage, barn, and the forest." She explains to Esca and Shockwave, while washing a plate.

 

"Neat! A ward of that size is quite impressive Dessa." Esca says to the woman as they finish up cleaning.
"I am quite excited about this, I mean we could witness history soon. If that wand fires off its spell we will know it is possible for him to use magic. If not I will think of something." Esca says her eyes focused forward and a light smile shines on her face.
"The horse we got from the stable were well behaved I mean from sudden bandits, to a giant metal man it must have been a lot for them to take in they only reacted a little bit" Esca says to Dessa

 

"Well I can only do to middle, and small sizes wards. So I was luck that the field behind the cottage was small, which is all I needed to practice spells." Dessa washes the last of the dishes, then drains the soapy water.

"Seems like they were trained pretty well not to react to some things. They were still spooked, but not bad enough to hurt themselves trying to break away from the carriage." Dessa replies to Esca.

 

"That sounds as good a place for training as any," Shockwave chimes in, shifting over to the sink to help wash the dishes from dinner and put them away. "I've got this feeling deep in my gut that I don't have any magic; but, I know it never does to rule out a possibility before it has a chance to grow into something."

He leaned forward, his mouth next to Esca's ear. "We prefer Transformers, thank you."

 

Once done with dinner and the dishes, Dessa heads out the front door. She goes over to the fenced in area to feed the new horse they bought and her own. "When ready we can head over to the back of the cottage." Dessa says while washing her hands at an out door sink.

 

Her hair stands on its ends from the sudden voice in her ear. "Got it" she says in response. They have finished up and make their way to the back outside the cottage. On the way out she grabs the lowest level spell book from Dessa's shelf..
"Okay when one uses magic we release a bit of our essence or soul per say it comes from a core and then to a point of release and then" she says as she demonstrates as she shows the path of energy in her body before creating a thunderwave from her hands. "What you will be doing is trying to find that essence within you and then working towards focusing it onto the point of the wand in your hand. Once you accomplish this it will fire off a weak ice spell." Esca tells him as she then uses a detect magic spell watching Shockwave and his progress.

 

"Like this?" Shockwave retreats mentally within himself and looks for this 'soul', trying to find something resembling what she was speaking of. "I'm not finding anything like what you describe, I don't know if I have one."

He continues to search mentally, keeping his eyes closed to help concentrate. "Are you sure this is how to do it?"

 

"I am not sure... I don't exactly remember searching for my magic soul like this. It kind of just activated one day when I was a girl." Esca says to Schockwave.
"In school we were taught to move the magic in our soul and move it to a point of release. However we already knew where to begin. You are trying to find the start if there even is one for you" Esca says not seeing any magic being developed in his body.
"Keep at it for a bit longer try envisioning a sphere of energy in your centre then picture a tiny bit of the energy moving through up your chest into your arm and then through your fingers pushing it into the wand" Esca says to him trying to add some visualization aids.

 

"Okay, I'll try." Shockwave nodded and bit his lip in concentration, though no one could see him do it beneath his visor. "I'll try visualizing the sphere as you mentioned, see if that works to help."

He did as requested, imagining a sphere at his core and him trying to gather all of his 'magic' to that one spot. He concentrated to the point that he gave himself a migraine and eventually he sighed and released the breath he had been holding, looking to Esca dejectedly. "Anything?"

 

"Nothing. I'm sorry. It is getting late. You can keep the wand and try again on your own time. But we should get ready to rest soon. I know me and Dessa need to. Besides I have some thinking to do" Esca says to Shockwave her face clearly a not as cheery before. The detect magic spell fades as its time runs out.
She returns the book to Dessa having not open it. "I took this encase we got something from this step. I may try to contact one of my teachers from the academy in the morning they may be able to help. Oh and if you ever meet them they are a they not a he or a she but a they. I haven't talked to them in quite some years. The Practitioner of Artifice Abie Wilts. They might know what to do" Esca says to Dessa but loud enough that Shockwave could hear.

 

Dessa takes the book from Esca, then goes over to see if Shockwave is alright. "Don't worry we'll think of something else to help you look for magic. Lets get some sleep, and try again tomorrow." She squeezes his hand, before heading back to the cottage.

 

"It's okay," Shockwave assured, turning to gaze off into the distance. "I figured as much. I am not composed of the same carbon compound you are, I come from another planet, another world. It would have been far too much to expect for it to work."

He returned the squeeze of Dessa's hand before turning and following them into the house, pausing at the door to stare at the stars in the night sky, imagining his planet so far away. "It is probably for the best, maybe some rest will help."

 

"Always best to do things with a clear head." Dessa replies to Shockwave. "Pick which ever spear bedroom you would like up stairs. Mine is the one at the end of the hall. The washroom is in between the spear bedrooms." She tells them as she walks over the the stairs. "Oh, if you need extra blankets they are in the chest in front of the beds."

 

Esca walks into the house. "That is correct I know you mentioned it in someway when you said you were not sure if you had DNA in regards to us thinking your teleportation was a spell. I just could not shake my mind from what I know." Esca says as they enter the house "ahhhh-hhaaaaaa" Esca yawns stretching her arms up to and stretching her back.
"Thanks Dessa you've been a real great hostess. I'll see you two in the morning. Have a good night" She says taking on the spare rooms. She walks over to the bed and writes in her diary she writes what happened during the day and draws a quick picture of Dessa and Shockwave.
"Talk to Abie in the morning" she tells herself before she begins to drift off to sleep.

 

"You are more than likely right," Shockwave continues, climbing the steps and pausing at the top to look at both of them. "I think a good night's sleep will recharge me and I will be more prepared to tackle our dilemma tomorrow."

He yawns himself and raises a hand to pat his palm against the front of his visor. "Goodnight you two, sweet dreams and hopefully tomorrow, with the start of the new day will see us having an even greater adventure."

He pushed open the door to his guest room and tossed himself on to the soft mattress, feeling it give beneath his bulk. He sighed, rolled on his side and cupped his chin in his palm. He could only hope that he would get a definitive answer tomorrow on whether magic were a possibility for someone like him. He was hoping it would be; but, one could never be sure of anything in life.
