    By now you should know the people that are just liking for the sake of liking and you should also know they're just doing it to make your day better, heh :megu

    Uuhh... I think an announcement would be enough to let people notice they shouldn't just like for the sake of liking posts.
    Ignoring certain things from a person would be a bit too much and we shouldn't go this far. I guess it's also a bit too much work for something that can be solved pretty easy.

    That's what this is, lol. It's in the announcement section, like the other announcements, with the News prefix which is used for updates or news on features/changes here. Maybe I'll just make an announcement prefix so people are not confused.

    I'd prefer to not go that route, but it's always an option.

    Likes won't be disabled, and the method Rohan suggested just damages the experience on the user side.

    I think the best course of option would be a cooldown to how many posts you can like in a certain amount of time. Of course not everyone really cares or agrees what we do with the likes, and that's fine. This way we can keep the option while putting a few tweaks to it.

    Oh, I meant it more like giving a notification to everyone on SD and say something like not overdoing it with the likes, haha. Though the announcement prefix does fit too :k

    How does it damage the user experience? They have the option whether to enable like notifications or not. I think you guys are overreacting. Has anyone actually complained about this?

    I like the whole like spamming thing, it, it's a way of acknowledgeding posts you don't feel like commenting on (agreeing or disagreeing). Not to mention limiting its use will make likes received feel like a rank thing.

    Yeah, so ask people if they're okay with you spamming them with likes. Pretty simple, no? To be clear, spamming is more than here and there and a literal condensed mass of likes.

    At the bold. Why should a user have to remove that entire functionality simply because another user is spamming them with likes? That is essentially punishing the person doing nothing wrong and inadvertently encouraging spam of notifications as there are no rules regarding this?


    Yeah, but it's not outside of reason to make members ask if people are okay with being like spammed, if they are okay with that, no? By like spam, we're meaning quite literally up to 30 notifications + of likes over a small period of time. Not one here, reply, get another, etc.

    @bold okay so i guess place a reasonable like cap over a reasonable period of time. Just so people don't get a sense that their freedom of liking is being repressed, just spamming and if it's not enough decrease the like quota even more and so on. And honestly I don't even know if it's a problem the site faces. I mean maybe you guys just get loads of likes because you're admins and all. Plus if you're popular, you just can't avoid the like spam lol. Have you asked for user feedback? maybe you should make a thread poll and see what the community thinks.

    A like cap is not final at this point, it is an option. An opinion. We're having further talks on this specific approach. As a general idea it was roughly something like 20 likes per hour, but that could even be abused in itself, so it's likely more feasible at that point to make a like alert ignore list on a per user basis, but this entire topic is still up for discussion.

    Ideally I'd prefer that we can let it continue as is, but it's unfortunately not really feasible at all times.

    As for user input on this, it may be something else to consider, but may not always be viable.

    I agree @Gobb maybe disabling like notification would be good mate . I had to refresh my webbrowser because it did freeze for a moment . Anyway i think admins need to leave this to users whether they like getting notification . However the final decision is upto admins they can have likes or not .
