Suggestion Contest voting to scale to participants

You have 9 entries the best one the quality one will still be there and voted, the 2nd best will also cause it might be a close fight even a 3rd, but what if there is 2 epic entries and 7 that are not so much? You give encouragement to one of hte lower people too. That's what it is about and you don't hurt the strong entries in any way since they will still win, but the ones of the middle-new one will still get some votes.

Will there be again people wiht 0 vote? Sure that's highly possible it happens since there is way better entries, but it makes the whole end result a lot smoother and better result there is a reason all the major voting and stuff aren't single voting but with more than 1 choice.

Me and Ningen have been to more than 1 forum and we have run those stuff on more than 1 places and we have experience in it we aren't just talking out of our asses here when we give suggestions.

 

So where is the problem? I thought that's the only problem you have with this voting.

If you are not good enough you are just not good enough end of the story.

One vote makes you think who you wanna reward.

 

THIS IS NOT AN ENOCURAGEMENT TOURNAMENT.Get encouragement in GFX threads not a competition.If there are 2 epic entries you'd make your one vote worth more rather than rewarding both which is again nonsense.It's one or another not both or three.

Who said that people aren't voting the best one just to encourage beginners?
Beginners will NEVER win if their work isn't the best and people will always give their first vote to someone who deserves it because of their submission being part of the best amongst all the entries.

You only encourage people when you see that the best entry has no chance of losing.

 

To have a smooth ranking at the end. First will still be first. But rest won't be 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 9th, 9th, 9th, 9th, 9th.

It enables the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th to see at which point they were behind. 4th did not so bad, whereas 9th clearly has to improve.

 

If you think competition is just to see who is the best and not to encourage the one at the bottom then you have never been to competitions and don't know how to run them simple. This is how you lose people this is how competition die.

Competition is to get a feedback about how good you are. But if you have votes on only 2 people out of 10 then you know it's fucked up since you don't get a feedback at all about how good oyu actually are.

 

Unless you are God and can see in the future how can you possibly know the results,you can't since you need to vote to see the results first.So if you give a vote to let's say your best work it doesn't mean that work is automatically winning.so then you waste your 2 votes on beginners.

Look.If you are 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,9th you are not good enough no matter what position.

If you want to win then you wouldn't possibly care about what position you got since you haven't won anyways.

If you aren't in best 3 then it means you need to learn.Hence even second and third will learn just to be the winner.

No it isn't this is not a feedback competition,you can host a feedback competition if you want.

Contest is contest...if you are good you are good if you are not you will learn more.

 

Yes on this site three times,and I won twice and lost one.

And you bet I was not happy losing and you don't see my giving up lol even the opposite I was so pissed I want to destroy the competition now.

 

The problem is that it doesn't always work that way. I have been doing gfx for 6 years now and been on many forums and most of the time have seen that it does actually encourage them in a wrong way. Especially on non gfx forums many of the participants are not trying to get better at all, if they get a few votes their entries didn't deserve in a competition. That may sound harsh to some of you, but it is the truth.

Why waste more time on something when i place with just cropping and some filters done to the stock/render (for example)? I have seen that on OJ with the same people always placing... by recognizing their style, which is pretty easily actually with the people who aren't into gfx for not too long. I don't see how that helps beginners to get better or have the motiation to continue.

If someone really wants to learn gfx and get better, you open a thread in the graphic section and post your work. That way people can give you cnc and encourage you to get better.
This is how it has always been and works perfectly. If someone truly wants to learn how this works they would never stop because of no votes in a competition. It would give them the motivation to search for tutorials, ask for cnc and etc.

Every competition is feedback. The feedback is about how good you are. Which can't be seen with people voting for just 1 entry when there is 9. The amount of votes must be proportional to the amount of entries.
