Suggestion Contest voting to scale to participants

As artist I usually like encouraging people and acknowledge their work by giving them one of my other votes.

I can bet you by the end unless you add points there will be least 4 people without votes.

The point is yes the best to win, but for others to enjoy participating that's the reason every single ******* big event in whatever area has rewards not only for the single best.

 

What do you mean what's the point? That is really just telling beginner participants they can **** right off.
You can not compare someone who has been GFXing for several years to someone who is new to it, experience and practice makes people better. Obviously, no newer guy is delusional enough to expect to win in his first try. He could, however, compare himself to previous AOTWs and see his progress in relation to those. Something that's a lot harder for him to do if he doesn't have the voting thread there for him. Not being able to see how you have improved is discouraging, so 1 vote per person discourages participants. Discouraged participants mean dead competition.

It's really not my personal problem lols

 

This is why forums typically have a top 3 voting system.

IE you post in thread

Y
Z
X = 3 pt
Y = 2 pt
Z= 1 pt

X will generally always be the best, Y will be 2nd best and Z will be 3rd best but the other entries will get some love from the Y-Z ratings from everyone that voted leaving a realistic 1-9th place. Not a 1-3 with 4 @9th

Forums have used this method for years and it's always worked, and people have continually grown through it.

 

Easy does it...if someone gets no points it means he/she needs to learn.if you get one point it's still the same.

if you get 1 point,2 points but winner gets 80 points it's basically the same.You aren't good enough aka try harder.

simple as.This is not a feedback contest.If you want feedback and be encouraged then ask people in a thread how to get better,you won't learn how to get better if you don't try.

I got many times 0 votes and that made me try harder.

But I also think damn that Y and Z put soo much effort in this and did such a great work

So if I had 3 votes - I could vote for them and be content

People when see their works get voted get Motivated and Encouraged to work harder
when they get constant 0's they feel maybe this isnt for me and leave the field.

I have seen it with my eyes as a host and as participant all the plenty in past 6 years so I know and it isnt "lol this aint OJ crap"

This is no place for beginners and people hoping to improve with that elitist attitude of yours that needs massive fixing.

A GFX comp isn't a big "F u" served to starters. Its served as platform for them to improve


Even hardcore GFX communities dont get so stuck up because they know how things are progressed.

 

At this point im fairly effing sure you dont know basic meaning of GFX contests if you think its only for lol Positions.

 

Please explain me how can a vote change something...if you are not good enough no matter how many points you have you are not good enough...

 

Yes normally the scale is used is 1/3rd of total entries are allowed as vote options.
so 3= 1
5/6 = 2
8/9 = 3 and rest upto host.

 

It's been done even when there are only 2-3 entries. It still has realistic end results. More entries frankly even better.

Always pick top 3, people's #1 will vary of course, ex in this setup there's objectively 2-4 really really good entries so if 20 people vote their #1 will go between those tops. Then their 2nd pick will likely be amongst the rest of those objectively RRG ones.
Then their 3rd pick stems from the rest of the entries.

Most people in hindsight care for #1 more than anything, whether they entered or not, so that one typically has the most thought put into it, which leaves last place a more loose vote based on instant "interest" in a certain entry. Which more often than not will be one of the lesser quality ones, but at least the creator knows what works and what doesn't work and it helps them improve more.

I mean neither Ningen or EPC are wrong here; the votes will be completely lopsided and entries 5-9 or even 4-9 will have shit all for votes, lucky to even get 1. That's not how to nurture competition or constant participation.
