Ubisoft's CEO had the gall to say that the game flopped (it was a financial disaster) because of "the Star Wars IP".

That comment was dumb on so many levels. Because it came in a week when EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 peaked in player populations and demand for a Battlefront 3 was at an all time high, when the Jedi series of games were still selling like mad, and the Star Wars shows were doing exceedingly well on streaming.

Dude wanted to pass the blame for his company's tremendous failure on to * checks notes * the single most popular and well-known IP on the god damn planet.

It takes special talent to make a financial disaster out of something that should sell well on the fukking IP name alone. I mean... BF2 was a massive success despite its controversies. If it were not for the Star Wars IP attached to it, the game would have probably crashed and burned in the first six months.

DC-dimming is extra shit that makes OLED displays more eye-friendly, but at the cost of colour accuracy, energy efficiency, and longevity. However, those issues have mostly been solved these days, as proven by Xiaomi's Redmi Note series, Motorola Edge series, and Oppo/OnePlus offerings.

What is really infuriating is that Samsung and LG could implement 10-bit and DC-dimming right now, and it would make a negligible impact in their profits. In fact, in the long run, it might be better despite some (just some) added short term costs.

Like many "Western" concerns, they give a damn more about short term profits than long term sustainability.

The horrendous displays in iphones are inexcusable for the premium price paid. It'd be one thing if it was something like a Euro 300 Oppo Reno 13F. But for the prices you are paying for an iphone? Absolutely inexcusable.

iphone PWM is worse than Galaxy S ultra and even Galaxy A-series budget devices. They are as bad as Google Pixels. Base frequency is much lower, amplitude is higher, PWM stepping based on display brightness is vastly worse than on Euro 300 Galaxy A-series devices from 2020.

I went from a Galaxy A51 to a Google Pixel 8a, and the latter almost fukking killed me with the migraines it was giving me. I went back to the Galaxy A51 and then got my current Galaxy A35. I am mostly fine.
