Well, she did it, dudes and dudettes.

My sister got married in Copenhagen, and is now in Cologne. We all gathered here and watched it on Zoom (their photographer over there set it up).

I highly doubt it is the ceiling of their abilities at that point, considering they have some insane speed feats already by then.

Managed to download and install from Steam itself. Took three hours to download the 23 GB on a blazing fast connection. It was actually pretty fast.

I must say that I am somewhat disappointed with the optimization this time around. It doesn't run as well as before. I'm running on medium settings at 1920x1080, with motion blur disabled, AA on low, shadows on low, reflections on low.

Had a 52 fps average and with regular frame rate drops to as low as 36 fps; before it ran at 60 fps steady and dropped to 53 fps only a few times.

The performance did improve after the latest update patch, with the game now running at a 56 fps average and drops to 46 occasionally.

The fps doesn't improve when turning the settings down to low, which is what the game automatically set to on first start up; it actually becomes even more inconsistent on low settings. I have heard this complaint almost exclusively from Nvidia users. The game seems better optimized for AMD GPUs. The RX580 is roughly equivalent to the GTX 1060. Yet the RX580 manages a steady 60 fps on high settings @ 1920x1080 while the GTX 1060 manages only 40?

One of the most ridiculous issues I have heard of is that GTX 1070 and RTX 2060 run smoothly on high to even very high settings at 1920x1080 with 70-100 fps, but the frame rate drops to a 50 fps average on low or medium settings. Same issue with the RTX 3060, apparently, on both 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 resolution.

^ What the **** is that about @Gobb ? High end GPUs running the game butter smooth on high to very high settings but half that frame rate on low to medium?

I will, however, say that the game is indeed shit-loads of fun. They have the gameplay aspect down; it's as fun as Halo 3 and Reach. They just have to do something about the technical glitches and the bad xp system. And it seems like they might address these, as 343 have proven over the last three years that they're listening to the fandom and delivering. So I have hope that this shit will get addressed somehow.

PS:
I knew the minimum VRAM requirements were wanked. People have managed to get this game running on Nvidia MX250 and MX350 GPUs, which are 2 GB only and are based on the old desktop GT 1030 chip (albeit at 1280x720 or 1600x900 resolution and low settings). Those GPUs are also half as powerful as the GTX 1050 Ti (desktop) which is the minimum official requirement.

That is a fine game, from what I hear. More than fine, in fact.

If you're having second thoughts about getting it on PS4, you could get it for new laptop? It's coming to PC in February 2022, I think.

Not too disappointing. Optimization is still more decent than some other games from these days. I mean... Game still runs on GPUs half as powerful as the official requirement. That is something.

But, yeah, it could have been much better. With the way this game looks, minimum requirements and recommended requirements both should have been a bit lower (assuming proper optimization). I get that the game engine is doing things that Crysis 3 and Witcher 3 engines did not, but still...
