Yeah, I didn't expect this conflict this soon. It was obvious they'd likely eventually try and kill each other, but it' hell soon.

Idk, you'd think that. But if tampered, they'd probably just explode, or they could laser beam your head.

Chapter 16 was good. It's actually interesting, beside "number one" being overly self important/cock, he also acknowledges as the leader and one with privilege, he has responsibility to those lower. Although maybe that's just because Oblige, the "grunt" spoke out of turn.

#1 is Iakeru Danma, known as The Hatter. #3 is Keiichi Kuzuryu, an attorney and #6 is Rizuna An, a forensic technician for the Tokyo metropolitan police. Those are the important characters introduced so far, with a higher "rank".

It's actually impressive in borderland that they've created a place very reminiscent of the outside world. Electricity from a gas-powered generator, water pumped in from the river and gas from the propane reserves on the premises. Danma even indicated that they'd likely be ploughing fields and starting families if it were a deserted island, not borderland where they don't know if they'll live a few more days. His view is that they should consume all of the resources in the desolate Tokyo to live to the fullest. I do think this is a front for something more sinister, but they put up a good front. Also, wouldn't the gas really not last that long? lol.

They actually have an impressive host of people. Doctors, chefs, hunters, mechanics, lawyers, fighters, soldiers, professors, etc. Basically every type of person. Apparently, they even had a politician who died straight away because of being useless. xD Danma claims that The Beach offers peace of mind and safety to members, and he ensures order. Honestly, seems like a cult. xD

One of the rules of The Beach is to always wear a swimsuit on the premises. Aside from that, Danma says that they're free to drink, do drugs and play with women. Arisu and Usagi have been given their locker keys, 71 for Arisu and 72 for Usagi.

It seems Arisu and Usagi are both cautious of The Beach, which is wise. Especially Usagi, being targeted by men with nefarious intentions. Apparently, the key back from Borderland involves collecting all the cards, I guess. There it is, it's collecting all of the cards allows one person to go home. I did kind of figure it'd be like that. xD That's fucked. Naturally, the reason for there being a number-based ordering system, is that it's the order that members joined, meaning the order they go home with. Danma also wants all of their cards, as all cards collected "belong to the beach". The system seems kind of unfair, but at the same time, it also makes sense. Danma reasons they collect duplicate cards, so eventually they'll all go home. When Arisu questions Danma about if they refuse and he reveals the last rule of the beach. Traitors die.

Arisu apologizes to Usagi for dragging her into it, but she indicates it was her choice. Out of their cards, they got a new on the 7 of hearts. This has Danma questioning whose it was as he'd promote them. Without hesitation, Arisu said it was Usagi's even though it was his.

Arisu now has no idea how to move forward due to becoming tangled in this mess. I kind of hope he goes AWOL on their asses, but I have no idea how things will play out. Arisu really wanted to go back with Usagi, but feels there's no point unless they both go together. I wonder if it's because he likes her, or because she's a good person.

Now as the evening starts to approach, some ceremony is starting. They're sending out four parties to under-represented areas. Two parties each to the Adachi and Koto wards. They also have confirmed new arenas in the Shinagawa ward. Lighting a bonfire is part of the ceremony, and Danma gives a speech rallying the crowd.

LMAO Arisu gives the same thoughts as me. It's just a cult. They're expendable tools only for collecting cards and the top few reap the rewards. The guy back from the second game, who presented himself as a killer, Chishiya was surprised and disappointed that Karube didn't survive as he owed him a favour. It seems that Chishiya and another Hikari Kuina might be plotted a coup within The Beach.

Not much to say about this chapter sadly other than the brief flashback we get of Usagi. It's true though, people who don't fit into a clique in school tend to be outcasts and ostracized for it.

    The Beach looks ridiculous.

    Chapter Fifteen
Turns out the Beach is a resort hotel and seems to be filled with a bunch of young attractive people. It was no surprise that Arisu would be the one to discover the secret through power of deductive reasoning. I'm sure anyone could find the location of the Beach if they paid attention but I'll humor the author, people will see what they want to believe and if they're distracted trying to survive the games, they probably aren't paying that much attention.

    Chapter Sixteen
The Beach is a ponzi scheme of the highest order. You lure in a large number of people to do the grunt work for you, in this case collecting the cards for completing challenges. You propose that it is all to help someone leave the borderland behind by collecting all of the cards. Then you take the new cards and add them to your collection while leaving them the duplicates so that they can continue to exist on their visa.

Makes me wonder how this whole system works. I mean, we saw the medical student stealing cards off the dead killer and other players so we know they can do so.

Arisu finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place when they learn that there is no escape once you learn the secret of the Beach.Though it seems like the medical student and some attractive store clerk employee have a plan in the works.

I mean it was literally on the map lol, but yeah I assume it was just missed due to the stress of the situation.

Yup, I'm glad Arisu pointed it out straight away instead of somehow being an idiot and missing it. I assume that Usagi also realised, if the author doesn't make her stupid suddenly.

Yeah, I don't get how the cards just mark off or whatever? Like, we never saw such a thing with the other people, unless they just drew it all up themselves or something, I assumed it was a "system" thing.

I think Chishiya is plotting a "4d" chess move against The Beach and plans to rope Arisu in. Basically, take them out, maybe take control, so they can go home themselves. Kill or get rid of they current higher ups.

Chapter 17 was good. The next game is six of spade. Rules are players are Zebras and players need to defeat all predators including lions, tigers and even hyenas. Brutal. God damn, the people from the beach actually managed to kill them all, actually crazy. Even if they had weapons.

Kuina has made her move on Arisu, getting to know him to lure him into their ploy. She used to smoke, but stopped when getting to borderland, because she decided to start caring about her health, even when death is a game away. It's a symbol of her resolve to live. Her sick mother that can't use a bathroom by herself is back home, and she doesn't want the be the one to die first. It's a bit morbid. When Arisu was questioned about his loved ones, he was about to say they were all already dead, before he remembered Usagi. xD Kuina teased him a bit, and Usagi might maybe be jealous if not just cautious of Arisu and Kuina looking friendly.

Kuina issues a warning to stay away from team 2 if he wants to survive on the beach. #2 Aguni, self-defence force, #4 Niragi a game designer, and #8 Samura with no prior employment. There are two factions on the beach. Number One's lead by hatter which is the cult and Number Two's lead by Aguni, the militant faction. They are peaceful, barely.

Alright, Arisu has balls of steel standing up to that massive ex-military guy, who obviously was willing to rape Usagi. Even after being warned by Kuina. Arisu was quick to think up some psychological mind **** after spotting Danma. Also, respect to Danma, even if he's using it to his advantage, he didn't need to interfere and save Arisu. The situation de-escalated, but now Arisu is forced to side with Danma. He's the lesser of two evils, anyway.

I think his plan is more about the killing than control.

I mean, the whole concept of let's use all the resources and live three days at a time seems like a great plan. Totally not going to backfire or cause a fire or other disaster with it.

    Chapter Seventeen
The Beach is apparently two factions held together loosely by their shared desire to escape. It is a tenuous peace and one that seems like it could boil over at any point in time. Arisu finds out the truth when Number 2 comes back from a game that involved African predators. Apparently they have a man who can take down a full grown African male lion. Must be special. Gotta have plot armor of some kind.

When N2 wants Usagi for some sexy time after the end of the game. Then Arisu doesn't want to have her spirit broken when she is his hope, so he plays the two groups against one another.
