I know it seems self-explanatory but this is something I've struggled with and sometimes still do.
So this ish a tutorial on basically how to select and crop your avatar before you do stuff to it bwananana. Renders would be another tutorial entirely

And im no pro at this avatar buisness so yeah full warning

    1) Search for a picture to use, I normally use google images until you find one you like
    [IMG]
    Image (open)

    2) You're gonna right click save that hoe
    [IMG]

    3) Den you're gonna open photoshop or whatever you use n open it
From here this is photoshop specific, and I'm not gonna do other translating tutorials for cropping cause it really is self-explanatory but if someone uses a new program and dun know how to crop IM HERE BISH

    4) Select the crop tool

    5) Now back when I was silly and I didn't know how to make avatars I used to pull the thingys to a desired size BUT THATS SILLY DUN DO THAT
Instead we're gonna go to our sexy top menu here
    [IMG]

And you see that ratio person

We're gonna CLICK it cause we dun need it and select the second option

    6) Now your top bar is gonna look like dis

I'm not really gonna go into specifics here but basically, this allows you to crop to the desired size. Savy? Good

Make sure px/in is selected at the end (next to clear)

So our first box here, to the left of the arrows is our width. For a pro size avatar we want it to be 180 px wide. So type that in like so, making sure to write 'px' at the end

    7) Next we're gonna wanna set our height.
So to the right of the arrows is the height box. For a pro size avatar we want it to be 360 px high. So type dat then in and remember your 'px' at the end!

    8) So you see we still have one empty box right?

That's our resolution box, we dun want her to be lonely, so let's put it at 72 that's normally good for web
    [IMG]

    9) Now we can play!
You can drag the crop box on the screen around, make it bigger and smaller, and place it wherever you want.
Yours will be different but when done, you'll have something like this

    10) Then just hit the tick on the menu bar
    [IMG]

    And boom!!!!!

    180x360 size

    BANANANAANANANANANANANA

So now even the BANANANANAAN OF BANANANANAANS can crop!

I mean that is handy but isn't it easier to just select it and alt+shift it and position it how you want it?

I will google translate it into the language of the Eskimos Hu Hu +.+
Nawww I like more freedom of control and this is just one method of doing it - I guess this is a more streamline approach
