Yeah, going fine. It entirely depends on your needs. It is good for storage and you can run apps on it too, so you could make a self hosted library of videos you could stream (full bitrate or encoded), you could download manga and have your own manga reader, make it like your own "cloud" upload service, etc. For you, I'd say it's probably only worth looking into if you had old hardware lying around and then picked up some cheap drives to throw in.

I don't really consume a lot of content nowadays, I do have one PC lying around that could be put to use lol. Maybe I can use it as aa cloud for my photos. But then I'd have to keep that pc on forever :notlikethis

Yeah, plus, it's not like it's really a fool proof backup. xD

I have to assume at this point they're running like all those 40tb SSDs or some shit. But I really have no idea. I would have to assume they would have to get them cheaper in some big deal. Like, do they also somehow have a backup of it? How many petabytes of storage must they have? It's actually insane if you think about it. The must back it up. I can't see them even running it with like 3 disks of redundancy per block without a back up. But yeah, idk, it's just wild if you think about it.

I honestly do think the numbers were fudged by network transfer.

When my sister was in Christ Law School, we got her a Huawei dongle. INR 800/- for 3 GB data at 7 mbps followed by 256 kbps after the 3 GB was used up. The connection was very reliable and stable.

I want another google cloud storage account myself. For work shit. I am currently using One Drive, and it is . . . just okay in terms of practicality and user-friendliness.

    Sheer dumb luck?

Seriously, though, they have excellent cyber-security. In fact, they are better than even One Drive in this regard, which is also pretty secure.

I have an alternate account which I don't use regularly. I made it for gaming's sake back in 2006. I can still use that account.

    It is indeed wild.

As for quantity of data: We are talking dozens of exabytes here. Their server sites in North America alone store five exabytes of data from the world over.

Google has its own Data Centers in Europe and Asia. They definitely have backups of everything. Also Data centers are the new real estate so they're investing in it a lot along with hosting for other companies as well. Google has so much data on it cause it owns Youtube, Drive and Gmail. Imagine losing data on those websites. I would assume only Meta or AWS would be near google in data.

I think that is the case as well. But I'm not sure, because if you're downloaded a hundred gb+ a day at a few times, it does add up.

Yeah, I have no doubt google has top shelf workers doing their technical stuff.

Yeah, plus at minimum I assume they follow the 3 copies backup rule. So it's not just the data itself but copies of it. It's crazy.

I think AWS is probably larger than meta (at least I would assume) because a lot of business run on AWS (including twitch itself). But idk what Meta provides in terms of infrastructure excluding it's own services.

Yeah, it's just wild thinking about it. Like, just think of how much storage they need without backups. Then they probably have at minimum (likely more) 3 backups in 3 difference places. So it's 3x the storage realistically minimum. ******* wild. xD

Yeah. xD It could've come back at any time but they wanted to resolve the security issues. xD Idk why people thought it wouldn't ever come back. xD
