    @Gobb
    @Laraib

    Waterfox on desktop now has a fully functioning ad-blocker in-built. It was in its experimental stage, but as of the latest update (which came last night) it is fully functioning. It uses Brave's code and ublock origin filter lists. So it reliably blocks ads everywhere. It is lighter on CPU & RAM when compared to ublock origin, from what I can see, which is certainly a bonus. The only downside I see is that it does not reliably block "please disable ad-blocker" pop ups on some sites (like notebookcheck and a few others) whereas ublock origin does. However, Waterfox's lead dev has stated that they intend to fix this in the next update; and you can run Waterfox's ad-block plus ublock origin both, which reliably blocks those pesky pop-ups. The only downside of that is slightly increased (about 150 to 300 MB) RAM usage (no increase in CPU usage, however).

    It is still not available on mobile, and will take a while more. However, you can run ublock origin plus privacy badger on mobile anyway.

    My take:
    Waterfox dev team should not have bothered with an in-built ad-blocker for their browser, seeing as how ublock origin and privacy badger can both be used on the desktop as well as mobile versions (Waterfox is just Firefox modified to be more CPU, RAM, and battery efficient, after all). They should have just focused on improving security and update schedules. Their focus on an in-built ad-blocker is, for now, a waste of their time and precious resources.

    That's really cool. Tbh nowadays all web browsers hog up your RAM like it's their birthright. I trust firefox cause you have like a bajillion addons plus it's 999999999x better than anything like chrome or edge. Since most systems have enough RAM to support firefox atleast i don't think we might see a huge shift but yes I'm all up for breaking duopolies

    It's pretty good, but yeah kind of agree on your take. It seems like re-inventing the wheel.

    Also, have you heard of https://helium.computer/ seems like a new one given it's only in open beta, just saw it pop up in a youtube thumbnail the other day, so curious on if oyu have any thoughts/opinions.

    Brave, Vivaldi, Waterfox, Librewolf, Zen all use half as much RAM as Chrome and Firefox, and one-third as much as Edge.

    Yeah. I would have much rather had improved tab grouping & tiling features, may be in-built background play feature for mobile, improved screenshot capabilities on mobile, and some other minor things. They could have focused on in-built ad-blocker later on, considering there are trusted extensions (like UBO and PB) that already handle the job of blocking ads and trackers, and that too with a negligible impact on CPU, RAM, and battery.

    Yes. I have heard of it. However, everything it does Waterfox and Zen (with extensions) and Brave (by itself) already do. The only notable improvement is in responsiveness and speed. And even then, all but that one motherfukker with Spider-Man reflexes/reactions will probably not notice in normal usage.

    Definitely agree. It seems like a weird focal point.

    I also just realised I don't think it can really play most video content, given it doesn't yet support widevine drm (at least out of the box from what i saw) which i believe majority of video hosted content uses.
