I never installed a single update on my phone. It keeps on popping every few days but I always decline to install.

It was annoying at first but I got so used to it, my mind doesnt even register it anymore

 

You can't really buy a great phone with that budget.

A54 and others sound good on paper, but after a year or 2 get very laggy. Nowadays it's either flagships or nothing.

Poco phones are good buget ones but not everyone will want a chinese one.

I have had my A51 since February 2020. It is still good for another year (or at least half a year). My only complaints with it are inaccurate GPS and abrupt signal drops in certain locales (seemingly an issue with its particular SOC). Also, the Galaxy A5X series phones are literally the best selling smartphones in Europe since 2019. They are rather dependable for everyday average usage. May be not for gamers and camera whores, but good enough for the average user.

I have nothing against Mi and Poco phones these days. However, I hate their UI and the Indian versions have shit frequency support (despite their SAR values being on the higher side). They do have blazing fast wi-fi and bluetooth speeds, but unsatisfactory range. That is why Samsung with One UI (with Snapdragon or Dimensity SOCs; dumping Exynos) and Motorola with the stock UI (with a Dimensity 6000 or 7000 series SOC) are my top options; because of greater band support and greater wireless connectivity range. Camera OIS is not a huge priority for me; if the camera can capture/scan an A4 size document with good enough quality, it is sufficient for my uses. However, thankfully, all the Samsung and Motos in my budget have them.

I had considered Oppo/OnePlus as well, since their particular UI is close to stock Android. However, they have gone down in features relative to price in the last three years, with even Samsung offering better models relative to price. Seriously, the F25 Pro and Nord CE series cost the same as the A34; but support half the frequencies despite higher SAR ratings, have unsatisfactory cameras (which is surprising for OnePlus), and worse IP ratings despite similar price bracketing.

Not considering the A54 due to wanting to move away from Exynos. That is why I have considered the A34 and even the A15 from the Samsung side (their ridiculously good battery back-up is also a plus). Also the M55 is on the table; it has an older SOC, but is more than sufficient for me, being actually in-between the Dimensity 1080 in the A34 and the Exynos 1480 in the A54 & A35.

And I have no qualms about getting a Moto. They do give one OS upgrade and three years of patches. And pretty much all apps support Android OS versions going back 4 or even 5 iterations, so I'm good there. And I don't game on mobile anyway so game support is a non-issue. The newly released G64 is tempting, as are the Edge 50 series (though I might avoid them only due to my dislike of that kind of display).

I know, right? Even in the EU (where he lives) the best selling smartphones since 2019 have been middle class or upper middle class models in the Euro 300 to 500 price range.

Imagine thinking you need a flagship smartphone for basic calling, web browsing, youtube videos, music, basic everyday camera usage, shopping, basic navigation, and just any other everyday stuff. My Galaxy A51 is four years old now (it released in December 2019 and I purchased mine in February 2020) and it still gets all that done with negligible fuss. And, I would like to add: The A51 was considered quite underpowered in the CPU department (at least for its price point) for even its release time.

 

Anything is better than Samsung

 

Well I do, and I speak from experience never in my lifetime I had problems with a flagship where I've seen loads having problems with a non flagship, it's simple really, you either never had a flagship so you wouldn't know the difference and trust me, the difference is night and day

 

I never had a flagship but that IS the point. I am able to use my average mid-range phone just fine 2-3 years down the road. It's not that it doesn't lag, it's that it's not that noticeable and the people who DO have flagships also end up experiencing lags not that much long after

 

Well of course since not everyone can afford the best in line phone.

You don’t need a flagship for day to day use ofc, but a flagship will definitelly last you longer than your average budget phone.

I don't think it can be more simple, flagship offers their best specs and performance, budget is budget for a reason.

On a budget phone everything sounds well and dandy untill you get one and after 1-2 years you experience massive drops in performance.

Otherwise the phone wouldn't be 300 euros.

The point is, I am telling you from experience, I'm the type of person who'd pay 100 euro extra to save myself from future hassle.

You can get a s23 normal for like 500-550 already
