Episode 20.

One time I hate that Askeladd for being too cocky and a piece of shit...one time he becomes some guy who cares about people.... I mean...

So far considering Thorfinn is the MC (?!?!!?!??!) I don't like him one bit. He became so annoying to me. Canute started being a nice character.

 

Episode 21.

Might be my fav episode so far, Askeladd is just too smart. The assasination double was just top notch. Also the way he manipulates with people is just too good. It was sad and emotional seeing Bjorn wanting to die as a warrior rather than dying from injuries. Not just die like a warrior but die as a warrior against his friend. That's the duel I appreciate.

Now...Thorfinn vs Askeladd...again....something tells me Askeladd won't lose.

 

Episode 22.

Askeladd beat Thorfinn without a sweat...like I just can't be arsed anymore. People keep saying Thorfinn is greatly devoloped and a great character but all I see is just a crap writing for Thorfinn. He didn't change a bit from early episodes if anything he bacame more annoying. The potential from early episodes is just wasted. Honestly his scenes annoy me so much now. Thorfinn is literally what Askeladd was to his father before kill. Thorfinn lost so many times that this duel lost any meaning, even Thorkell seen it, Thorkell took all the words from my mouth.

Thorfinn is trash.

 

Episode 23.

Leif trying to get Thorfinn back was sweet, we'll he do it? I doubt. Thorfinn seems broken.......onto last episode.

 

Episode 24 - The end.

Umm.....how do I put this into words...pfff....

I really am NOT surprised Askeladd died by the hand of someone else, really am not. I never expected Thorfinn to beat Askeladd in these 24 episodes after constant lost duels. That's not my problem. Ok it kinda is. But a little problem.

Logically, I expected Askeladd to die, but the way the anime was shifting from episode 1 to episode 24 gave me the impression that Askeladd won't be dying. He is too smart, he knows his stuff. Author hyped up Thorfinn so much in early episodes, that stare from the little Thorfinn on the ship was great, it opened the whole imagination to me how Thorfinn will be a great fighter, go beyond everything just to kill that son of a gun Askeladd.

What I got? To simlpy put it. Disappointment. That's what I got. Thorfinn was a great figher but only against fodders, that doesn't show much. Every bigger fight he lost. Ofc he lost like he is a kid right, I shouldn't expect him to beat Thorkell or Askeladd, experienced fighters of the sea so quickly.

So again logically I expected another timeskip of even older Thorfinn.

What I got? Trash. From episode 1 to episode 24 story really didn't change a lot. It really didn't, the whole story was recycled. Here's Thorfinn, he is weak, Askeladd says do this, he does it, let's fight...sure...Thorfinn lost...repeat. Then Canute comes in. Guy who never ever did something fight based or even leading based. Changed from absolute wuss to absolute kingerooni in like 3 episodes? It just took Ragnar to die so he snaps. So my guy Thorfinn in 10 years is absolute wank which funny enough Askeladd said as well lol , but that Canute guy who never did anything king based became that one absolute wonderkid who knows everything.

So here's me waiting for Thorfinn to finally kill Askeladd thinking that will happen in the next season...outta nowhere Askeladd dies in last episode by the hand of Canute.

What in the actual **** did I waste my time on? Thorfinn was shown as an absolute idiot in 24 episodes. He didn't learn a thing from all the duels with Askeladd. He somehow became even more stupid. Like I can't be arsed....what happens to Thorfinn now? He dropped his dagger in the last episode, is that the foreshadow that he is done with killing, he fell into a depression? Surely he won't be free since he attacked the King? Does he flee with Leif now?

Author made the mockery out of the Thorfinn vs Askeladd duels, he made the mockery out of Thorfinn's character. There are way better ways to show how weak Thorfinn is. There are many ways to show it. Author clearly never wanted Thorfinn to kill Askeladd just to make that change later on, from him being obsessed with revenge to idk what happens next probably being like Thors when he left.

So my rating. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the anime. But to be frank, Thorfinn annoyed me for the last 15 episodes? I never understood what he wanted in the end. This is like a 8 maybe borderline pushing 9. I enjoyed it but there are so many things which irk me.

Who's the best character in the anime? Askeladd hands down. The only guy who did something interesting. Died. Shame.

Also opening 1 and ending 1 are top notch.

 

I seriously wish Berserk and Kingdom had Anime adaptations with the same level of quality that the Vinland Saga Anime has.
