Unfortunately they aren't exclusive to one country. Ignorance and complete lack of critical thought is everywhere. Also, contrary to @upsurge it ain't exclusive to religion either. I've seen plenty of non-religious people who throw conspiracy theories or try to downplay Hawking's accomplishments as mere guessing (since they don't understand what the word "theory" means in science).

The real problem here is the educational system in particular, being focused more on just "getting it done" rather than trying to spark interest in students for science and logic (education boils down to getting a diploma so you can go and get a good job and get wealth while the pursuit for knowledge, critical thinking etc is left as something secondary when it's actually the driving factor for humanity instead of the completely individuallistic mindset) and pop-culture in general as it constantly portrays critical thinking, studying and logic as "nerdy" or "lame" while it portrays social status, wealth and pleasure as the only things that count in life.

I think these are the real reasons why so many people don't know and don't care about these things. While religion can certainly contribute to an ignorant mindset by imposing unquestionable dogma, it is naive to think it's the sole let alone crucial factor.

and by OUR they mean Hindu's.Its basically using majoritarianism to force anti science bs and bigotry in each and every field since around 80% people of this country are hindu's

Its basically you need to be a zealot hindu to be a nationalist and thus they view secular hindu's as threat to them.The safforonistion of education is taking place in large scale since the RW fundamentalists were cahoot with british during freedom movement of India against the british. They were one of the biggest factor's that led to partition of India;one of their member's was the guy who murdered the so called "Father of Nation" here.So you can see why they want to change history

The saffronisation of education is also the main reason's of all the anti Science BS spewed here on daily basis.They try to discredit West from everything and potray that an India did it first but it was stolen away by west
