• "It is advised that you do not give inactive player roles to members who have been lynched or killed in your game. This gives the member an unfair advantage through prior knowledge attained through his previous role. Please contact a Game Manager in case you want to do this."

What does the above mean? It's addressed to hosts, can't seem to figure it out tho.

 

I will use an example.

Dante is the Mafia Role cop. He gets lynched on Day 3 and his mafia role is revealed.
On Day 4 Toldyouso who is a Townie Doctor tells the host that he cannot play and asks to be subbed out.
Dante shows interest in playing and is subbed in Toldyouso place by the host.

Doing so will cause the entire game to break. Here's why:-

First Issue: Dante as the mafia role cop would know the roles of players he has investigated when he was alive (He knows two Townie power roles). This means he becomes a Doctor-Pseudo Cop by using prior knowledge. This combination is OP as he can simply protect the Townie power roles. First Issue can be summed up as "Prior Knowledge through subbing causes the role attached to a subbed player getting an unwanted and overpowered boost".

Second Issue: Dante's alignment has changed from Anti-town(Mafia) to Pro-town(Town) indirectly. If role claiming is allowed, it would be near impossible for Mafia to win. If role claiming is not allowed, it will only delay the inevitable. Dante as the Mafia Role Cop would know the identities of all the Mafia Players. Once he gets the subbed townie role, he can simply out all the Mafia roles. Second issue can be summed up as "Alignment Change through subbing can break the game by making it near impossible for a particular faction to win".

The main reason why it's not advised to do so is that the knowledge gained by a player from his previous role cannot be wiped out. It will remain and will give an overpowered advantage to that player if he is subbed into another player slot in the same game. This would also apply to reads and the subbed player in question gets a pseudo second life.

The wording doesn't really point to future games, It just never crossed my mind that a dead player can try subbing.

 

Well I saw hosts subbing in dead players on another mafia forum so I put it up there just in case.

 

Wow that will be chaos.
Though, now that I think about it, logically, a vanilla townie can be subbed for another town role, or even a mafia role.
